Reading recommendations …

Every month I send out an electronic newsletter, and one of my features is a couple of book recommendations. I also ask folks to write in with their own recommendations, which I share here on the blog.

For March, Purple Ranger recommends the Demon series by Julie Kenner. According to Purple Ranger, there are three books out in the series so far: Carpe Demon, California Demon, and Demons Are Forever. A fourth book in the series, Deja Demon, will be released later this year.

I’ve read the first book, Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom. Imagine Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a soccer mom, and you’ve got Kate Connor, the heroine of Kenner’s series. Kate juggles the needs of her family (husband, teenage daughter, infant son) while tracking down and killing demons and other nasty things in San Diablo, Calif. It’s mommy lit with a paranormal twist.

Anybody else read something good recently? Share in the comments.

I’ve really been wanting to read this series. But everytime I go to the bookstore, they don’t have it in stock. I’ll have to try to find it next time I’m at the bookstore. (who knows when that will be though).

Chasity — I think you’d like it. I enjoyed the first book. It reminded me of MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead series, although Kate is a lot more serious than Betsy — and doesn’t have the shoe obsession.

I adore Julie Kenner’s Demon series and I don’t care for Buffy or vampires. What originally grabbed me was the subtitle about the soccer mom. (I also adore soccer.) Now I’m hooked on the series and jazzed that another one is coming out.

Chastity, if your bookstore won’t order them (usually a free service,) try Amazon.

    Sincerely,
    Louise B

Louise — I thought the first book was a lot of fun, too. :scooby:

I keep meaning to pick up the next two in the series, but life and my already massive TBR pile keeps getting in the way. Maybe after I whittle down the TBR pile a little more …

I hardly ever buy anything at the bookstore anymore. Amazon is so much easier. Even better, there’s no sales tax! 😈

I’ll definetly have to check this series out. I love the Betsey books. They are some of my favorite, even if Betsey is a bit on the silly side.
