All stamped out …

It’s official. The people at the post office hate me.

I’ve spent the past two weeks or so mailing out bookmarks and promo packages for Jinx to bookstores across the U.S. and even overseas. We’re talking around 130 envelopes or so, all of which weighed different amounts. All of which had to be scanned.

The guy at my local post office is terrific. Always jokes that I’m a world-famous author and people should hurry to get my autograph. He’s even taken to calling me “the David Hasselhoff of Australia” after I mailed several package of bookmarks there last weekend. (For those of you who don’t know, for some reason the Hoff is extremely popular overseas, especially in Germany.)

The folks at the other post office I frequent, well, they’re not so friendly. Which is were the hate comes in. I can see them cringe every time I come in with my envelopes. And I’ve snippily been informed they can only scan 10 envelopes at a time.

So I get my 10 envelopes, stand in line, get them scanned, pay the postage — and then go out to my car to get 10 more and face the wrath all over again.

Ah, the life of an author. Glamorous, ain’t it? :joker:

Why not buy a postage scale and print your postage through the USPS website? I’m not sure if you can print media mail through there, but it’s worth looking into. Plus, there’s Stamps.com, which has a monthly fee but may be worth it for you.

You can also buy sheets of 1 ounce stamps (postcard stamps), which are also very handy.

I have two postage scales from my Ebay days. One goes up to 2 pounds, and the other to 50. I still use them all the time.

Tia — Honestly, it takes me so long to print the promo stuff, count out the bookmarks, and stuff the envelopes (usually a whole weekend) that by the time I’m done I just want to dump them at the post office and be done with it.

Besides, my dad works at a post office. Gotta keep him employed. :woodstock:

    That’s messed up.

Our post office has the self meter mail. If the line is long I use it. Maybe you can suggest they get one for your post, it much more convinent.

    Hugs, Danette

Danette — That’s a great idea! I’ll suggest it. Although they already have the automated machine where you can buy stamps — and it never works. Such is life, I guess. :joecool:

I absolutely LOVE that you have them do your 10 packages and then immediately get back in line and do another 10.

Jennifer, you’re the postal workers job security. My co-blogger Michelle Diener is moving from South Africa to Australia soon. She’ll see your books on the shelves there.

Amy — If that’s the way they’re going to be, I have to do it. Gas is too high for me to only do 10 during one trip! And I might get a little enjoyment out of circumventing their rule. :green:

Edie — Yeah, I’m keeping the PO in business. Cool news about Michelle. I hope everything goes well for her!
