    Best urban fantasy …

Elemental Assassins Book #3 - VenomI got a cool e-mail over the weekend. The folks over at The Romance Reviews have nominated Venom as one of the Best Urban Fantasy books of 2010. Huzzah!

They’re holding a big online voting contest to determine the best books of 2010, so go here to vote for your favorite books in a variety of categories.

I have absolutely no illusions about winning, especially given all the great books and popular authors in my category (like Nalini Singh), but it’s really cool to be nominated.

    Happy voting, everyone! πŸ˜‰

  • That sound you hear …

A few folks have e-mailed and asked me if Tangled Threads is going to be available as an audio book though Audible, like the first three books in the Elemental Assassin series are.

I’m happy to say that the answer is yes. πŸ˜‰

Audible will be releasing both Tangled Threads and Spider’s Revenge as audio books, and Lauren Fortgang, the narrator for the first three books, will also be reading Tangled Threads as well. I’ve gotten a lot of nice comments about her narration, and I’m glad she’s reading the next book in the series. (No word yet on if she’ll also be narrating Spider’s Revenge.)

I assume the release date for Tangled Threads will be the same as the on-sale date for the paperback and e-book — April 26. It’s not up for pre-order at Audible yet, so I don’t know sure. If I find out differently, I’ll let you know.

    Until then, happy listening! πŸ˜‰

    Excerpts update …

Okay, I think I’m pretty much done with the latest round of website updates. Huzzah!

One of the things I’ve done is post the first chapter for Spider’s Revenge, the fifth book in the Elemental Assassin series that’s coming out on Sept. 27. Click here to read the chapter. There’s nothing too spoilery in the chapter, but if you absolutely don’t want to know some of the stuff that happens in Tangled Threads, then don’t read the chapter. You’ve been warned.

Also, several folks have e-mailed and asked why the short stories that I mention for Tangled Threads on the Excerpts page haven’t been posted to the website yet. For one, it seems like every time I sit down to do that, something else comes up that I have to take care of. LOL. Also, I’ve offered the stories to my publisher to see if they want to use them in some sort of marketing promotion, and I’m waiting to hear back from them. Anyway, I’ll keep you posted and let you know when (and where) the stories are available.

Regarding the Haints and Hobwebs Elemental Assassin short story, I can’t post the entire story since it’s going to appear in The Mammoth Book of Ghost Romance that’s coming out in October. But I have posted the first two pages as a teaser. Click here to read those pages.

Also, don’t forget to check out the page for my new Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series. You can also read the first two chapters of Touch of Frost, the first book in the series that will be out on July 26. Click here to read the chapters.

Okay, I think that’s all the updates I have for now. Happy reading! πŸ˜‰

Gin and ghosts, oh my …

I’ve signed the contract and turned in the story is so I guess I can finally announce this. I’ve been invited to write a story for The Mammoth Book of Ghost Romance anthology — and it’s going to be a Gin story. πŸ˜‰

Right now, I’m calling it Haints and Hobwebs: An Elemental Assassin short story, although that title might change a bit. And since someone will probably ask this, some folks in the South use the word haint for ghost, and I thought it would be a cool variation to use in the story.

The story takes place in between the events of Tangled Threads and Spider’s Revenge. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, so I’ll just say that the story is told from Gin’s point of view and has her doing what she does best — which is taking care of business as the Spider.

The book will be out in October 2011. I don’t have a list of the other authors writing stories, but according to this post I found on Carolyn Crane’s website, she’ll be one of them.

I’m really, really thrilled about this. It’s such a cool honor to be invited to participate in an anthology, especially one of the Mammoth anthologies, which I’ve heard so many great things about. As a reader, I love anthologies — I think they’re a great way to try several authors for one price. As an author, I’ve been wanting to be part of an anthology for a while now and hopefully pick up some new readers who may not have tried my work before.

Anyway, I’ll post more details — including the exact release date — when I have them. But for right now, here’s a preliminary version of the cover art. Enjoy!

  • And the title is …

Well, we’ve finally decided on a title for Elemental Assassin #5Spider’s Revenge. Huzzah!

I think the title bookends nicely with Spider’s Bite. I’ve always said that the Gin/Mab conflict would go for five books, so I don’t think I”m giving too much away when I say that the two of them go head-to-head in Spider’s Revenge. There’s also lots of good Finn and Bria stuff in this book. πŸ˜‰

Of course, I’d love it if the series went beyond five books. In fact, I’ve already started thinking about the plot for book #6 — and I’m hoping there will be a book #6. Fingers crossed anyway.

Not sure when the book will be up for pre-order or when I might get some cover art — probably not until late this spring. Anyway, I’ll keep you posted.
