That's one of the things that bugs me about the show these days. The mythology and how things work doesn't seem to be consistent or even somewhat logical. To me, the writers just seem to be making it up as they go along and lose or ignore whatever elements they don't like. Remember the smoke monster? We saw it what, once, this year?

The whole time travel story makes my head hurt. Never been a big fan of the TT plot device.

Spoilers ahead, of course:

I just saw the finale of Lost this week (I didn't catch it live) and I was quite impressed. I think this season has been the best yet. It was much more contained than any of the other seasons, I think - with a story arc that not only furthered the overall plot, but worked as a self-contained, smaller plot within the whole. Enough so, in fact, that with only a little help along the way from me, my girlfriend watched the whole season (her first season of Lost) and was just as rabid about it by the end as I was.

I have heard a very well thought out theory that Ben is not killable just yet due to wacky time-traveling between the Island the "real world". Something along the lines that the Island is in some kind of time loop (say, repeating the same 7 to 10 years over and over, but not in a Groundhog Day kind of way) and if you exit the Island, then come back, you're guaranteed to live until the time you lived to before you went back in time to get to the Island? Widmore has probably been there (since Ben couldn't kill him) and Ben has obviously been on and off the Island as well (hence not dying yet). Michael as well. (Consider the jamming gun this season that apparently had nothing wrong with it.) I know I'm not getting it all down there, but it's a thought.

I just keep getting the feeling that all the "Flash Forward" stuff this season will ultimately be eradicated from the time line by the characters heading back in time when traveling to the Island and stopping the circumstances from ever happening. Perhaps even by going as far back in time as the beginning of the series. (Jack's odd circumstances upon waking after the crash lend a little credence to this - out in the woods, flat on his back? Is that how Ben appeared after teleporting off the Island in the flash forward?)

Long post, I know!

I'm just glad they're not going to try to milk it for eight seasons like some shows do.

Yeah, I imagine next year will be getting everyone back to the island. Although I do wonder if they'll still do flash forwards/backwards with the characters who are off the island.

And we need another Sawyer episode. Didn't get one of those the whole season. To me, he's the most interesting character now that they've sent Locke off into loony land.

It was great. As suggested in Time Magazine, I think the show has been made stronger knowing that an end date has been set.

The end with Locke dead really sets in play the upcoming season. Jack and Ben trying to get everyone to go back and finding out why Locke is forced off the island is a real solid place to start from. While not as big of a change as last season's finale, it moves the story along very well.
