At most of my signings, I should have just set up a radio and played the song “Walk on By,” because that’s what people were doing to me.

Seriously, some people wouldn’t even make eye contact with me! I guess they were afraid I was going to demand that they buy a copy or something. Ah well.

Now, though, whenever I see another author doing a signing, I’m going to go over and at least say hi to them. Believe me, one is definitely the loneliest number.
