General musings

  • Better than a cover model, baby …

Romance writers sometimes get accused of writing about unrealistic men. Of making up guys who do and say things no mortal man ever would. I frequently accuse my significant other of crushing romance under his shoe like a bug.

And then, he goes and does something totally sweet and unexpected.

On Saturday, he surprised me with a silver necklace in honor of Karma Girl’s release. The necklace was nice enough in and of itself.

    But wait, there’s more.

Because on the end of this necklace dangled … wait for it … wait for it … a book charm!

A silver rectangular book charm with a teeny diamond set in the center. (Actually, the book was a Bible, but he had the jewelers grind the words off so it would just look like a book. I don’t think God will mind … too much.) I admit it — I melted a little. All right, a whole lot.

    But wait, there’s more.

Because I’ve also been told by my significant other — hypothetically of course — that I might be receiving some Karma Girl T-shirts in the near future. Again, this is just hypothetical. But stiil. Melting a little more.

My mom and grandma also gave me congrats cards and yummy chocolate cake yesterday too. 😎

What about you? What have you or others done to mark the release of your first book? Inquiring minds want to know …

Taking over the world — one blog at a time …

I’m going to be busy with a variety of workshops and blogs the next few days in anticipation of Karma Girl’s release on May 1. Here’s what I’ve got on tap:

I’m doing a workshop on how to create different kinds of paranormal characters over at RWC: Romance Writers’ Community through April 27. It’s a Yahoo group you have to sign up for.

I’m doing my regular reader’s blog over at Romancing the Blog on April 28.

I’m also doing a blog about how to survive the editing process at Magical Musings on April 28.

On April 30, I’m the guest author for the day over at The Good, the Bad, and the Unread.

Hope you can check them out and support my mission of world domination … one blog at a time. 😈

  • A moment of silence …

If you haven’t heard, there was a horrible tragedy at Virginia Tech today, as a gunman killed over 20 people.

Virginia Tech is located in Blacksburg, Va., a college town about three hours away from where I live. It’s scary that something like this could happen — anywhere – but especially this close to home.

Let’s take a minute to say a prayer for those who were killed, the other victims, and their families.

  • That chicken squawking sound you hear is me …

Last week, I blogged about trying to decide whether to drive or fly to RWA Nationals in Dallas this summer.

I’ve pretty much decided to rent a car and drive.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m a big fat chicken because I’m nervous about flying. But honestly, flying just seems like a big hassle. And it would take me almost as long to fly back from Dallas as it would to drive (once you factor in getting to the airport two hours early and a layover in Charlotte).

But, I didn’t entirely base my decision on my cowardice. I also had to take financial things into consideration. I could basically use the money I’d spend on plane tickets and go to another conference, namely Moonlight & Magnolias in Atlanta.

So, that’s probably what I’m going to do … unless I change my mind again. Just ask my significant other. I’m completely wishy-washy when it comes to making decisions. 😕
