• I love nerds … and Prison Break

Just finished Vicki Lewis Thompson’s “Nerd in Shining Armor.” A cute, fun read. I liked it because the heroine is from the South and is as sassy as the day is long. Sort of like yours truly. Plus, the hero isn’t your usual sultry, broody, alpha male stud muffin. He’s a color blind computer nerd who’s sweet and sensitive. It’s a perfect beach book, especially since most of it is set on a deserted island.

But I like my alpha males too, which is why I’m off to watch Prison Break. What will the boys get into and out of this week? I can’t wait to find out …

    780 and counting …

I read somewhere that a person can only read about 3,000 books in her lifetime (on average). This depresses me. Only 3,000? I could probably find that many books I wanted to read in a year’s time. Good grief, every time I flip through Romantic Times I find at least 20 or so that sound interesting.

After hearing this stat, I started a list of all the books that I’ve read. Right now, I’m up to 780 and hope to hit 800 by the end of the year. The number would probably be closer to 1,000 if you factored in all the Baby-Sitter Club, Sweet Valley High, and other books I read as a kid. But it’s just 780 since I started keeping track.

Next on my to-be-read pile are some freebies I got from the RWA convention and a couple of fantasy books from the library.

What about you? How many books do you think you’ve read? What are you reading right now? Inquiring minds want to know …

  • Going, going, gone!

Where did summer go? The last thing I remember, it was Memorial Day. But Labor Day has slowly crept up on me, and next week, we’ll start another month.

And I had so many things I needed to get done this summer. Put up my Web site, write two more books, outline two more books, the list goes on … Well, one out of a dozen ain’t bad, I suppose.

What about you? What did you accomplish or put off this summer? Inquiring minds want to know …

  • Project Runway: The Romance Novel

I love, love, love Project Runway. The contestants, the judges, the wacky designs … it’s the best reality show on TV.

And it’s a romance novel just waiting to happen.

Think about it. You’ve got all the elements of a good romance. Lovable characters (Kayne!), divas (Laura), strange folks (Vincent, anyone?), drama, catfights, people struggling to overcome obstacles (mainly the weird challenges, like make something out of trash). All that needs to happen is to have love blossom between two of the contestants — or a contestant and a judge.

Can the two lovebirds remain true to their hearts? Or will they backstab each other to make it to the next round? Will the other contestants find out about someone’s secret sewing session with the guest judge of the week? Or will their illicit love affair destroy them both? Tune in next week on Project Runway: Romance.

Wouldn’t that make for a great book? Just remember, I thought of it first.

  • And then there was a blog …

Alright, I think I’ve got a handle on this blogging thing. If you’ve stumbled onto this post, that means you’re visiting my Web site. Greetings!

Here’s a little bit about me. I’m a soon-to-be published author, My first book, Karma Girl, is coming out in May. I also moonlight as a journalist to pay the bills. Until, of course, I hit the lottery … you don’t have to play to win, right?

I plan to blog a couple times a week as my book makes its way through the big, bad world of publishing. Reader feedback and questions are always welcome. Ask me questions about publishing. Ask me questions about journalism and the media. I’ll try to answer them as best I can.

    Later.
