So, I’ve been doing a little Christmas shopping this week, which for me, involves a lot of book buying. I love giving people a book they enjoy, probably more than any other thing I could buy them. And even better, if I’ve read the book too, we can talk about it after they read it. Books … discussions … supporting other authors … what’s not to like? 😉
So, I thought I’d share the books I’m going to give to my dad this year (since he never reads my blog). He’s getting Rain Fall by Barry Eisler and The 47th Samauri by Stephen Hunter. I may also buy him a John Sandford or another Lee Child thriller. Not sure yet.
My significant other is also getting several books, but I can’t list them here (because he does look at the blog).
And, of course, I’ve asked various Santas for several books, too. The latest J.R. Ward book (Lover something, I can’t keep them all straight), Don’t Look Down by Suzanne Enoch (the second in her Sam-Richard contemporary series), and Cold as Ice and Ice Blue by Anne Stuart (the second and third in her Ice series). There’s also a ton more I want to get, like Twilight by Stephanie Meyers, and several young adult books that have to do with superheroes, like the appropriately titled Hero. But I resolve to whittle down my TBR pile before I add too many more to it.
What about you? Are you planning to give books as gifts this year? Or have you asked Santa for some yourself? Inquiring minds want to know …
Just a reminder that I’ll be signing books from 1-3 p.m. at Books-A-Million in Johnson City, Tenn. Hope to see you there! :joe:
Summer Brooks and the rest of the folks over at the Dragon Page were nice enough to do an interview with me this week. We talked about my books, my inspirations, and even who makes the best James Bond (Daniel Craig, based on the strength of Casino Royale).
You can listen to the Podcast here. I come on at about the 16-minute mark. They’re also giving away five copies of Karma Girl and Hot Mama.
So, go check it out! :scooby:
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Food, football, family … you just can’t get any better than that. No presents to buy, no tree to put up, just lots of turkey and lots of napping. Not necessarily in that order. 😉
But I also like Thanksgiving because it’s a day to reflect and to be grateful for our blessings. So, here’s a list of some of the many things I’m grateful for this year:
1) My friends and family. They enrich my life in so many ways. ‘Nough said.
2) My health and general well-being. Sure, I could afford to lose 10 pounds. I need to eat better and exercise more. And I have a cold right now, but overall, I am in excellent health.
3) My books. This time last year, I was a nobody. Now, I’m a nobody with two books out and another one due next year. Nobody will ever be able to take that accomplishment away from me. It’s something I’ll always be proud of, even if I never sell another book (and let’s face it, that’s never a given even if you’re published).
4) Readers. If it wasn’t for you guys, I and all the other authors out there wouldn’t be here. You make us possible. No matter who or what you read, thank you for going to the bookstore and library. For talking about books. For letting them enrich your lives.
5) My fans. Okay, so the word fans might be a bit grandiose for me. I don’t know that I have fans (and I definitely don’t have them on the level that Nora Roberts or J.R. Ward have fans). But it always makes my day every time I get an e-mail from someone telling me how much they’ve enjoyed my books. Or when I go to a conference or book signing and someone comes over to talk to me about the books. Or just meeting people I’ve chatted with online or through my loops … it’s all good.
Of course, I have a lot more to be thankful for, but I’m not going to bore you with the rest of them. They really are too many to count. :ww:
