The good, the bad, and the ugly …

So, last week I teased that I might have some Bigtime news soon. Well, there’s some good news, and there’s some bad news.

Bad news first: Jinx has been pushed back from April 1 to Sept. 2, 2008. I know, I know, it sucks for you guys because now you have to wait a couple more months to read the story.

But there is a silver lining: Berkley plans to re-release Karma Girl and Hot Mama as mass market paperbacks. Karma Girl will come out in July, Hot Mama will hit shelves in August, and Jinx will debut in mass market format in September. According to what I’ve read, these kind of back-to-back-to-back releases seem to work well for authors. So, we’ll see.

Other news: I’ve finished Nightingale, the fourth Bigtime book, and turned it in. So, now we’ll see if Berkley wants to keep the series going. Fingers crossed!

Still more news: I’ve also finished the first book in a new series and turned it into my agent. Tentatively titled, Live & Let Spy, it’s an urban fantasy about a Druid who’s forced to become a spy and infiltrate a ring of magical terrorists. Sort of like Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files, but with a chick. And some really cool spy gadgets. 😉

Better news: I’m going to be featured in the November issue of Southern Living. It’s a brief blurb, only a couple of paragraphs, but it’s still really cool.

Best news: Hot Mama is going to be excerpted in the December issue of wait for it, wait for it … Cosmo! That’s right, I’m going to be a Cosmo girl. :ww:

What about you? What’s going on in your world this week? Inquiring minds want to know …

Wow! That is all great news! I think as far as debut authors go, you are the most successful one I’ve featured yet! I’ll be featuring Hot Mama soon — expect some interview questions before the end of the month.

I can’t wait to mention all this on my blog!

Wonderful news! I am psyched about the mass market paper back move. Apparently they sale better and I want big numbers so this great series can keep moving.
I can not say congratulations enough.
I am going to have to check out the Cosmo issue.

I am loving the new series idea. I can not wait to see that bad girl (I was going to say bad boy, but that is just not right) in print.

    My news-
My husband returns from military training in two weeks. He has been gone since July. I can not wait!
I also signed up for NanoWrimo and am pretty excited.

That is great news! Let us know when the issue of Cosmo comes out and I’ll be sure to pick it up. (That way when I finally meet you, you can sign my book and my magazine 😀

My bad news for the week is that I have to spend 8 hours in driving school Saturday, which is going to be the suck. Me and my lead foot have finally learned a lesson.

Good news? Um, my Dad is coming to visit and I haven’t seen him since August. I’m excited, but it means I have to pick up the millions of toys lying around the house.

Duh, I just re-read the post and realized you said the December issue of Cosmo. Opps, my bad.

Tia — I think I’m doing pretty good, but I’m not in Rowling’s league yet. But onward and upward! (as my agent always says). Looking forward to the questions. 😉

Celeber — Yeah, I’ve gotten some e-mails from readers and bookstores wondering when the mass market versions were going to come out. $14 for a book is significantly more than the $7 most MMs sell for, especially for a new author you’re not sure if you’ll like or not. Hopefully, the re-release will get even more people hooked on Bigtime.

I think the new series is pretty cool, but then, I may be a littl biased. 😎 I’m also working on a third series — a really gritty urban fantasy about an assassin. It’s called A SONG OF ICE AND STONE.

Have a great reunion with your husband. And get lots of work done during NANO month!

Chasity — The driving school thing sucks. There are much better things to do on a Saturday, like read. But hopefully, your time with your dad will make up for it. :cup:

Jennifer, that’s awesome news! You are going great places with your writing. :joe:

My writing has been going well, especially for a middle. I learned how to put up a wordmeter. I love my word meter! It keeps me wanting to see it go up. And Emma Bull guest blogged at Magical today, which was cool. I’ve been a fan of hers for years.

People will be saying the same thing about you.

  7. Jennifer Estep says:

Thanks, celeber. I appreciate that. 😎

Edie — A word meter? That sounds much more handy than obsessively hitting the word count feature like I do every other paragraph. 😉

Susan — Yeah, I hate that the release date got pushed back for you guys. But I think the paperback re-releases are a really good thing. How cool will it be to have Karma Girl in two formats? :joe:
