Oh, James …

According to an Associated Press story I saw, the title for the next James Bond film is … drumroll please … Quantum of Solace.

According to the AP story, the title is the name of a Bond short story written by Ian Fleming.

Interesting, but that doesn’t make it suck any less. Quantum of Solace? What is that even supposed to mean?

Titles are important, especially when it comes to books and movies. Catchy titles make people want to read the book or watch the movie.

Most of the Bond titles are awesome — The Spy who Loved Me, Casino Royale, The World is not Enough, You Only Live Twice, From Russia, With Love.

Some are merely average — License to Kill, The Living Daylights, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

And some make no sense at all — Thunderball, Moonraker, Goldfinger, Octopussy.

But Quantum of Solace? I think that’s one of the worst titles I’ve ever heard. It’s hard to just say. It definitely doesn’t trip lightly off the tongue. And I’d be very interested in knowing how a musician can work those words into the theme song. Have you ever heard the word solace in a song?

I really, really, really hope the producers change the title. How about something like Cold Solace? Or something, anything but Quantum of Solace. Ugh.

On the bright side, the movie is set for a Nov. 7 release. Less than 10 months away. Yeah! 😎

What about you? What do you think of the title?

I agree, it sucks. The new James Bond is hot, but I won’t be eager to see the next movie, whatever the title. I liked the character building in the last one, but the action scenes were too protracted and bored me. 😐

Tia and Amy — You’re right. It’s such a crappy title. What were they thinking?

Edie — You didn’t like Casino Royale? I thought it was one of the best Bond movies in a loooong time. Maybe the best one ever. Daniel Craig was so good in it.

Didn’t they have a looooong action scene in the beginning? I dislike movies that start with action scenes. They bore me from the start.

I liked the poker game. I thought that was awesome characterization. Daniel Craig is a really good actor and brought a new dimension to Bond that’s been missing. He’s hot too! But the many action scenes bored me.

That’s terrible! It doesn’t even make any sense! I can’t imagine what they were thinking. It sounds to me like a physics problem.

It’s a sad title, why would they do a title that means a small unit of relief from grief. I guess we don’t always watch movies for the title. 😆

  6. Jennifer Estep says:

Edie — Yes, they did, but I thought it was a really cool chase scene. But then again, I loved just about everything in the movie. It was just sooo good! :blos:

Michele — It does sound like a physics problem. It’s just … ugh.

Danette — Yeah, it’s sad. Supposedly, the movie is about Bond trying to come to terms with his lover’s betrayal in Casino Royale. And I think they’ve used all the rest of the Fleming’s titles already. Still … there had to have been something better …
