A few notes on audiobooks …

It seems like I am getting more and more e-mails/comments about audio books, so I thought I would talk a little about those today.

My Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series is available as audio books through Audible. Just go to the Audible home page, type my name in the search engine, and you should be able to find the audio books. So far, all of the books in the series from Spider’s Bite to By a Thread are available as audio books.

As far as I know, the audio book for Widow’s Web will be released on Aug. 21, the same day that the print and e-book versions will be available.

Also, for those of you wondering, the audio books are being narrated by Lauren Fortgang. I’ve gotten a lot of nice comments about her narration, and folks really seem to like her voice.

However, my Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series is not available as audio books at this time. Basically, Audible and the other companies that do audio books decide which print/e-books that they want to turn into audio books. I think it would be great if the Mythos Academy books were available as audio books, but it’s not something I have any control over. If the books ever do get turned into audio books, I will let everyone know.

My Bigtime paranormal romance series is also not available as audio books.

There are some companies out there that do create audio books for authors. For example, I’ve heard of Audiobook Creation Exchange. But with my writing schedule, that’s just not something that I have time to explore right now. I figure you guys would rather me write more books. Maybe someday, I’ll have enough free time to explore that option. We’ll see what happens.

Anyway, that’s a little info about the audio books. Hope that helps answer any questions you might have. Happy listening, everyone!

I love the Elemental Assassin series on audiobook – I have them all!

They “nearly” make doing the housework bearable!

But seriously, as much as I would love to – I can’t always find the time between work, kids and the day to day stuff to sit down and read. The audiobook is the next best thing!

Love them and looking forward to adding to my Gin collection on August 21!

Thanks! I appreciate that. That’s a good idea. I hadn’t thought of that. I sometimes turn on music while I’m doing housework, but I may have to try some audio books for that.

I’ve commented before on the Gin audiobooks. Fortgang really does a great job!

Just my 2 cents on the audiobooks for Mythos Academy – and I’m certain that it is just a quick opinion. I’ve been an Audible member for ages and it just gets expensive (and I’m cheap!). I would much rather my credits go to a longer novel over a YA-themed (traditionally shorter) and read the paper/electronic version of the YA.

Also, I re-listen to the Gin series before a new one comes out which justifies the extra money sent on the audio version – I’m not positive I would always do that for the Mythos (or any YA). That’s obviously more a personal decision, but I just wanted to toss my personal thrifty behavior out there.

Hmm. I hadn’t thought about that. The Mythos Academy books are a bit shorter than the Elemental Assassin books. Usually, the Mythos books run around 85,000-90,000 words while the Assassin books are usually around 95,000-100,000.

I have all of your audiobooks and love them…. I am so glad that you continue to put the series on audio so many only put 1-2 books out then stop and I never get to finish.. My eyes no longer let me read long before headaches come…Thank You for your audio series and also for the great narrator you have….

Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the audio books. I appreciate that.

However, it’s not really up to me. Audible determines how far they want to continue with the series as audio books.

I picked up Dark Frost this afternoon. I am looking forward to reading it because I enjoyed the first two books.

  5. Di says:

I too have all the audios of Gin. The narrator is perfect. Look forward to the new one.
I work in a 2nd hand bookshop and find I don’t have time to sit and read, so I DO catch up with lots of books and authors via audio(is this cheating?) Whilst I am driving, doing housework and walking- if it is a great book I find I walk further as I want to keep “reading”

Thanks! I’m glad you are enjoying the audio books. That’s a cool way to get your exercise, get things done, and enjoy a book all at the same time.

I don’t enjoy audio books as much as I enjoy reading paper/e-books. I feel that the audio book companies leave to much out of the from the books they produce. I realize they are limited by the time vs. cost equation, but they often leave out to much of the dialog and action to make listening to the book as enjoyable a actually reading it.

    btw,
I am current on your Elemental Assassin and Mythos series, and enjoy them very much. Sorry, but your Bigtime serie is just not my cup of tea.

    • Jennifer Estep says:

I will probably always prefer reading paper books too, even over e-books.

Thanks! Glad you are enjoying my series. If you haven’t checked them out yet, there are several free Elemental Assassin short stories on the Excerpts page of my website.

    • Charlie says:

I don’t believe the audiobooks i listen to cut out any of the content of the actual book. Including the Elemental Assassin series.
