999 and counting …

Finished Something About You by Julie James. I’ve seen a lot of good reviews online for this contemporary romance, so I decided to check it out.

U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde has the bad luck to overhear a murder during her stay in a luxury hotel — one that involves a call girl, blackmail, and a U.S. senator. But what’s worse is the fact that the case gets assigned to FBI Agent Jack Callas. Cameron and Jack worked together before on a case that went sour, and Jack blames Cameron for the fact that he got shipped off to Nebraska for three years. So much so that he ripped her a new one on national television. But Jack can’t deny his attraction to Cameron, and she feels the same way about him …

This is a really fun contemporary romance. Cameron and Jack are both likable characters, and there’s some funny dialogue between the various cops assigned to protect Cameron. I also liked that James had Cameron explain what really happened three years ago to Jack in the middle of the book, instead of at waiting until the very end. Cameron and Jack were getting closer, and she decided to come clean about everything. I thought that was very realistic. There’s also a nice balance of romance and suspense, and you even feel kind of sorry for the bad guy in places.

Overall, this would make a great beach read, and I’m interested in reading more books by James. Thumbs up.

Up next: Hardball by Sara Paretsky.

Books in my TBR pile: About 20.

  1. You are very dangerous to my book buying budget. I’ve only started looking through the book reviews you’ve done and I’ve already got a handful that I’m wanting and two I’ve broken down and bought already.

So thanks! Makes me happy to endanger my book buying budget. Means I get more books. :)

Also, excellent recommendation. This was one I broke down and bought today. And glad I did. It was a very good read.

    • You’re welcome. I hope you find some authors/books to try. Which ones have you bought already? Just wondering.

I like doing the reviews, and I love spreading the word about books that I’ve enjoyed. ;-)

I thought this book was a lot of fun — not too light but not too dark and gritty either. I’ll be reading more of James’ books.

      • I bought this one and Talk Me Down by Victoria Dahl. I thoroughly enjoyed both. They were ebooks since I got them to read while I’m stuck on the computer.

I’m picky about my ebooks. Some I’m okay with buying (ie, used for entertaining myself while at a computer), most though I’m dead tree books all the way. Actually, it’s kinda by genre. The SF/F/UF, YA, and most PNR are dead tree books only (unless it’s only available in ebook). Most romance and some suspense/thriller/mystery types I’m okay with getting ebooks. They tend to be my impulse buys anyway.

White Cat by Holly Black is next up on my dead tree book buying spree since you are the 40-kajillionth person to recommend it. And since I already decided I wanted it anyway. Now it’s just top of the list instead of middle.

        • Cool. I’m glad you’ve liked my reviews so far. I don’t have an e-reader, so I still buy dead tree books. But after I’m done with them, I exchange them at my used bookstore or donate them to my local library.

White Cat was pretty good. I love books about conmen/thieves so it was right up my alley. I was a little disappointed with the ending, but it works with the rest of the book.

I’ve got some paranormal romance and young adult reads coming up next. I’ll be posting those reviews here on the blog. I also post shorter reviews over on Goodreads, if you want to check out my author page.

          Happy reading! ;-)
