Finished Vision in White by Nora Roberts. This is the first book in her new Wedding Quartet contemporary romance series about four friends who plan weddings.
In this one, photographer Mackensie Elliot isn’t looking for love, but finds herself attracted to English teacher Carter Maguire, whose sister has hired Mac and her friends to plan her wedding. The geeky Carter had a crush on Mac in high school and isn’t about to let her go now that she’s back in his life. But Mac has a lot of issues, including a needy, controlling mother that makes it difficult for her to open up to Carter …
Everyone on all the romance blogs always talks about how great Roberts’ romances are. I’d never read one of her straight-up romances, so I decided to try her and see what all the fuss was about.
I really wanted to like Vision in White, and there was several things about it that I did like, especially Carter. It’s always nice to see a regular, kind of geeky guy as the hero. But I have to say that I didn’t care much for Mac, especially the way she let her mother walk all over her, like demanding thousands of dollars just so she could go to a spa. And I just couldn’t get into Roberts’ voice or all the sudden point-of-view changes that she made. (I know that Roberts is known for her skill in shifting POVs, but it just didn’t work for me in this book).
I’ve read and enjoyed some of Roberts’ J.D. Robb books, but Vision in White just didn’t click with me. Thumbs down.
Up next: Dark Desires After Dusk by Kresley Cole.
