Finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. This is a young adult fantasy book that I bought for Wheezley, since he’s such a big fan of Gaiman. I decided to read it too because it looked cool.
When a young boy’s family is murdered by a man named Jack, the boy is christened Nobody “Bod” Owens and adopted by the ghosts in a graveyard. As the years pass, Bod grows up and learns all the secrets of the graveyard and everything that the ghosts buried there can teach him. Bod has a series of wonderful and sometimes frightening adventures. But the man named Jack hasn’t forgotten about Bod and is determined to finish what he started and kill Bod too …
I liked this book a lot. I’m not a huge Gaiman fan like Wheezley is, but I thought this was a very well done kids’ book, and Gaiman definitely gives it his own slightly creepy, twisted spin. I wouldn’t recommend this for young kids, as there are some scary parts (and you know, Bod’s family gets murdered on the first few pages). Yeah, you can see where most of the story is going, but Gaiman does put a few nice twists in at the end. I know I’m a few days late, but this would be a great book to read (or re-read) for Halloween. Thumbs up.
