Finished Too Good to be True by Kristan Higgins. This was a freebie in the goodie bag at RWA Nationals this year, and I’d heard a lot of good things about Higgins’ contemporary romances and had been wanting to read her anyway. So it was win-win all the way around.
This book focuses on history teacher Grace Emerson, who’s younger sister is getting married to Grace’s ex-fiance. Talk about awkward. To keep everyone from feeling sorry for her, Grace invents herself a boyfriend — even though it’s her new neighbor, Callahan O’Shea, who’s really caught her eye. Too bad Callahan thinks Grace is kind of crazy, and her little dog too …
This is a really cute book. Fun and breezy, with a believable romance that develops slowly over the course of several weeks/months. I also loved the dog in the story, but hey, I’m a dog person. The whole inventing-a-boyfriend plot has been done many times before, but Higgins pulls it off nicely. Overall, this book would be a great way to spend an afternoon, especially if you like contemporary romance. Thumbs up.
