Finished One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. This is the second book in Frost’s Night Huntress urban fantasy series.

In this one, half-human, half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now working as a special government agent, taking on rogue vampires and the like. All the while, Cat still yearns for her lover, the vampire Bones (think Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) that she left behind in order to save his life.

But when Bones pops back up, Cat is reluctant to drag her lover into her work for the government — until Cat realizes that someone has put a bounty on her head. But Bones isn’t the kind of guy to let the girl get away twice, and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect Cat — whether she wants him to or not.

I like this series a lot because it’s just fun. There’s a lot of action, a lot of romance, and a lot of steamy sex scenes. It really does remind me of Buffy, if she was all grown up and working for Uncle Sam. And Bones is a great bad boy hero. The book is worth reading just for him. ;-)

I didn’t care too much for the subplot about one of Cat’s fellow agents being in love with her, but I’ve never really cared much for love triangles as a reader (and really, it’s not much of a triangle once Bones comes back into the picture). Overall, if you’re looking for a fun urban fantasy with a great hero and a kick-ass heroine, check out this series. Thumbs up.
