Here comes the Contest Bunny …

I can’t believe Easter is next weekend. It seems like yesterday we were celebrating Valentine’s Day. Where does the time go? Shakes head.

But I promised you guys I’d do another contest around Easter — so here it is. I’m going to give away signed copies of Karma Girl and Hot Mama, and Karma Girl and Hot Mama T-shirts — four prizes total.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post and tell me what your favorite thing about Easter is. You can also post about the contest on your blog if you want to, but it’s not a requirement. I’ll announce the winners on Good Friday, March 21.

My favorite thing about Easter? This is a toughie, since it’s my second favorite holiday (after Thanksgiving). But I’d have to say coloring eggs with my mom. We still do it, mainly because somebody once told my mom it’s bad luck not to color eggs for Easter. Every year, we drag out the food coloring and vinegar and haphazardly color a dozen or so eggs. The colors always run and streak and never look as pretty as they’re supposed to, but we still have fun doing it. And that’s the most important thing.

So spill — what do you love about Easter? :bubbles:

  1. There are lots of Easter-related things I used to do when I was younger that I loved– dying eggs, easter egg hunts– but sadly, I no longer do them (although I may have to reconsider the egg-dyeing if it’s bad luck not to). But the one thing I’ve always loved about Easter, ever since I was a kid, are the Peeps (the marshmallow baby chicks). Not exactly eating them, although they are delicious, but just seeing them in stores again just makes me happy.

  2. My favorite things about Easter are mini cadbury eggs, hollow chocolate bunnies and watching my girls hunt for easter eggs. It cute, they’re all dressed up and digging all over my moms backyard looking for eggs. This year my sister is flying down with her baby boy, I’m excited.
    Hugs, Danette

  3. I love seeing the colors in nature we haven’t seen all winter, the pastels, the pinks, the greens, the soft purples. It is a softening time, not quite time for the vibrant, definite colors of summer, just kind of a hesitancy to make the definite statement of summer; a time to start shedding the dark colors of winter, but a need to show life and a change for not necessarily better, but different and new.
Oh, yeah, and all the favorite chocolates in new and interesting shapes that you don’t feel so guilty eating because, hey, it is only one time a year.

  4. since my kiddos are older we don’t do the egg hunt any more and that used to be my favorite part. Now it’s dying egg with my youngest kiddo

  5. Hi Jennifer,

My favorite thing about easter is dying eggs, making Easter baskets, Egg hunting & eating jelly beans. I love Jelly Beans :)

  6. My favorite things about Easter are dying eggs, watching the children during the Easter egg hunt, and Easter dinner with the family.

  7. The main thing I love about Easter is that it means spring is here! Oh, and the piles of chocolate, too. Easter was never one of my favorite holidays, but I’m sure that will change next year with the little one’s first Easter.

  8. The best thing about Easter? Having the whole family unit at home together. And it’s a brilliant excuse to eat a mountain of Cadbury chocolate.

    ~Skarrah.

  9. What I like about Easter is having lunch with my family. We don’t get together a lot, and I usually haven’t seen them since Christmas. I also, really like the chocolate bunnies. haha

  10. The thing I love the best about Easter is coloring eggs with my kids and then in the morning the Easter egg hunt. The kids got too good at finding them so I have to get even more creative. I sit up the night before scoping out hiding spots.

Oh yeah and Cadbury creme eggs. Love them!

  11. Potato salad! Well, potato salad and bbq hamburgers and cadbury candy. Every year we dye eggs and hide them for the little kids, then after the eggs are found we peel them. Eggs that peeled pretty are turned into trays of deviled eggs, and eggs that peeled ugly go into the potato salad. I spend most of the time making the salad and having to chase my my husband and my father around with a spatula because they wander around with forks and stick them into what’s being made to ‘taste test’. Then there is eating with the whole family until we’re near comotose and my brothers using whatever eggs are left for an egg toss. But it all starts with potato salad.

  12. My favorite thing about Easter used to be the baskets my parents made for me. They weren’t these prepackaged ones. They were full of candy and maybe a stuffed animal, and I’d never actually see it until Easter morning when my parents told me the Easter Bunny brought it.

  13. My favourite thing about Easter…is the time off. Spent with chocolate Eggies, which are my girlfriend’s favourites :P :ww:

  14. My favorite thing about Easter is the new outfits! I don’t get to buy one lately, since I live where it’s too cold to dress up (at least when Easter falls in March) and I’m poor anyway. When I was a kid, though, my mother, who is a terrific seamstress, would always make me a pretty new Easter outfit (I remember one astonishingly green Gunne Sax dress)that I got to pick out the pattern and fabric for. I still love to see the ads for pretty new Easter dresses. Oh, and the hats are the icing on the cake!

  15. Coloring the eggs and the egg hunts are the best. Although the egg hunts were a lot easier when the kids where young enough that just throwing them around was enough.
Oh, and the contests people have around Easter are good, too

  16. Bunnies. Yeah, I’m unoriginal, but those are my favorite animal and IT’S THEIR TIME OF YEAR!

  17. Cadbury mini-eggs and Dove chocolate eggs. It’s all about the chocolate, bunny.

  18. :P My favorite thing about Easter is making up Easter baskets for my 2 daughters. Although they are now 16 and 19 years old, they both assure me they are not too old for Easter baskets. LOL! Besides candy, of course, I enjoy adding little trinkets and items I know they’ll enjoy. It’s like Christmas all over again just watching them dig into their baskets! Happy Easter, everyone!

    God Bless,
    Rhonda

  19. I am so addicted to those peanut butter chocolate eggs. I could eat a whole package and still have room for more! :blossom:

  20. Isn’t it all about the candy. I have to say i like all the candy people seem to most adversely oppose. Cadbury Cream Eggs (I could eat at least 10 a day all year round) and Peeps. I buy all of both I can find the day after Easter when its on sale and hoard it(well not really hoard it because I cant keep my mouth off of the stuff)for as long as I can.

  21. When I was little, we lived in California and Eastertime truly was springtime. I still associate Easter with flowers; Easter lilies, daffodils, fruit trees blooming, and the sound of bees buzzing.

  22. Loved reading all the comments! My favorite thing about Easter is what it really means. I love going to church and worshipping the Lord.

Also, the candy at Easter time is just fabulous! I love all the colorful wrappings they put on the candy to make it look so festive! Ooo…and I love making deviled eggs! Yum! I only make them at this time of the year.

That is what I love most about Easter.

  23. My favorite thing about Easter is hiding the eggs and watching my boys hunt them down. They have so much fun scrambling to find every last one!

  24. I think my favorite part is the day after — when all of the remaining Easter candy is discounted 50%.
